I'm relieved that Giroud stayed — Wenger

It was only the second opening day victory in seven seasons for the Gunners who are coming off a torturous campaign that saw them finish outside the Champions League places for the first time in 21 years.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's latest comments on Alexis Sanchez have not done much to ease the minds of Gunners fans over his future.

Are All Matches Available on TV?

Arsenal fans have expressed their love for centre-forward Olivier Giroud after he scored the winning goal in the last few minutes of their Premier League opening clash against Leicester City. Chelsea's starting 11, including the newly acquired Alvaro Morata, is good enough to defend the title, but the club's lack of depth could be a hindrance if injuries arise.

"In France he scored a goal every 80 minutes. So overall I think he adapts slowly to the way we want to play and is a collective player and an intelligent player as well". However, most of the matches will be beamed live to your television screens including all the big games.

Alexandre Lacazette will make his Premier League debut on Friday.

Chile international Alexis Sanchez has been ruled out with an abdominal strain.

"Goalscoring record is not necessarily transferable from the French League to the English league, that's for sure", said Wenger.

Sanchez, who has also been linked with Manchester City, has not played for Arsenal in pre-season after being granted extra time off after playing at the Confederations Cup with Chile. City enters this season as the favourite to climb back to the top of the league. Man United as well. "He's young and will only get better".

Despite having the lion's share of possession, the hosts found themselves 2-1 down just before the half-hour mark, with a misplaced Granit Xhaka pass allowing Marc Albrighton to set up Jamie Vardy, who slid the cross home.

And he said reports linking Arsenal to Leicester's Riyad Mahrez have been exaggerated.

"We were never close [to a transfer]", Wenger said of the Algerian. "I rate him as a player but we have similar types, with Alex Iwobi, Jack Wilshere back, and Mesut Ozil".
