It's not something urgent — Mourinho on Ibrahimovic

Jose Mourinho has confirmed Manchester United are in talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic about signing for the second part of the season.

Ever since suffering the injury in April, the Swedish striker has kept his fans updated with regular videos and photos, revealing how intensely he is working to return as early as possible from what was initially assessed as being a nine month spell on the sidelines.

With exciting Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus now fit and ready, Guardiola has a second striking threat alongside Sergio Aguero to compliment the creative talents of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane. It was Ibrahimovic, the big game player who stepped up to lead the way to winning the EFL Cup last season.

Ibrahimovic to miss the most matches of the next season and his career can be over if it won't be any better.

Mourinho may be advised to select someone quick against the valiant but slowing Zabaleta, the City cult hero who has been hired to fill West Ham's problem position of right-back. Clearly, Zlatan is welcomed back to the Italian side. It's not something that's urgent, it's not desperate to have it done or not.

Manchester United face competition from AC Milan as they continue their efforts to offer Zlatan Ibrahimovic a new contract, according to the Telegraph's James Ducker. "I understand the reality of the market, I understand the reality of the number", Mourinho told a press conference, the Manchester Evening News report.

The defence can appear surprisingly frail at times (looking at you, Chris "Mike" Smalling) and left-back is still a position that can be improved upon - none of the current crop provide the kind of attacking purpose (and extreme pace) that Antonio Valencia brings to the party.

The transfer window spiralled out of control this summer and the £89m United paid to Juventus for Pogba last year all of a sudden looks decent value. He clearly has pedigree as a league winner with a dominant Benfica team but there is no doubt that playing for United will be a step up.

Ibrahimovic scored 17 Premier League goals last season. This is why they were so interested in Ivan Perisic - and Ed Woodward and co. may be well advised to keep at the pursuit of Perisic and his ilk.

'Maybe he'll stay with us, ' Mourinho said before United's Super Cup defeat by Real Madrid. It's Manchester United but not as we know it.
