WATCH: Paul Pogba's Bizarre New Celebration After Goal Vs West Ham

The £75million summer buy from Everton hit the ground running at Old Trafford with a goal in each half as United thrashed the Hammers 4-0 in their Premier League opener.

"Lukaku has done a great job with the clubs that he has been at", said United right-back Antonio Valencia. The hosts spurned several chances to increase their lead before Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba finally put a realistic slant on the scoreline in the latter stages.

In their opening Premier League game of the season, United brushed aside a meek West Ham United, putting four goals past Slaven Bilic's team.

However, Lukaku's ability to thrive in big games and big moments has been questioned since he became Manchester United's second-most expensive player of all-time. The performance and the levels of confidence is what means a lot to me. It sounds like Mourinho will be patient with Lindelof as he adjusts to his new surroundings.

"The year is going to be especially exciting because we are back in the Champions League, and we don't forget the two cups, of course". A brilliant curling Rashford effort almost iced the cake, though curled against the woodwork and agonisingly across the face of goal.

He is playing well, he is working hard. Mine is to keep the ball and to score the goals for the team.

"I just woke up and had a good feeling, I knew it would be a good day".

Martin Keown is backing Romelu Lukaku to fire Manchester United to a Premier League title challenge this season. He insisted Man United being top of the table after one match means nothing. "We got three important points".

"The fans want to see attractive football and we need to stick to it and try to create as much as we can, defend well as a team and I think that's what we did so the crowd was really pleased today".

While saying the match was more difficult than it looked, admitting that West Ham did come close to making it 2-1 through Marko Arnautovic, Mourinho said his side was humming at the final whistle.

Crucially, and as has been widely predicted, Matic's presence allowed Pogba more freedom to roam forward in central midfield. Scored in each half and could have easily netted a hat trick.

It is very quickly very clear just why Nemanja Matic was seen as an integral part of Jose Mourinho's summer plans.

"A little bit similar to Chelsea last year, they came off a poor season so the players afe very focused". But with Chelsea already stumbling, this was something of a statement of intent.

The Chelsea coach didn't want to sell Matic, particularly not to a title rival like United. "He played because (Phil) Jones and (Eric) Bailly were both suspended", Mourinho told Manchester Evening News on Sunday. The actual Schweinsteiger struggled at Old Trafford, but Matic looks like he was born for this role.
