The Android Oreo features as revealed by Google make it very clear that the update is not there to make dramatic changes in how the Android software will look.

Priv owners will obviously be disappointed with this news, but it's not surprising; it likely doesn't have the install base needed to really incentivize such a huge engineering effort, and BlackBerry has since moved on from its hardware ambitions. Its premium design, stellar camera, and stunning display can still convince anyone to buy it. In fact, the Galaxy S7 is a great phone for those who are looking for a device they can manage easily in hand. For extended battery life, Android Nougat comes with 'Doze on the go' which will get activated even if your Nougat running device is in your pocket.

The current Blackberry hardware strategy of having TCL create and manufacture Blackberry handset adds an extra layer of complexity to the Android update process.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is the first device from the electronics company to run Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

He did mention that BlackBerry will continue to roll out security updates for the Priv, and that these updates alone "required a complex matrix of partners working together, including the licensees, carriers, Qualcomm and BlackBerry".
