Pep Guardiola: 'Yaya Toure knows why he has not been picked'

Guardiola has an array of stars at his disposal and has managed some of the greatest players of recent times, especially when his spell at Barcelona is taken into consideration, with his comments emphasising just how highly he regards De Bruyne.

Yaya was so important last season.

The versatile player joined the Cityzens from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window and has been used as a player in several positions in the past.

He did not even make the bench against Liverpool last weekend, with Guardiola claiming the player "knows the reason why".

The City boss added the full reason would remain private but the decision raised fresh questions over the 34-year-old's future at the Etihad Stadium.

Hopefully this new saga can quickly come to an amiable ending and Touré can play again in what is likely to be his final year as a Manchester City player.

Toure's omission marks the latest twist in his relationship with a coach who sold him from Barca to City in 2010. It is physical, yes, but it is the same in Spain or Germany, ' he said back then. Six players finished contracts last season, the only one who stayed is Yaya, because he is a special player.

"He's so stable and he has the mental quality".

"If you want to grow you have to beat them and it's the same here [in Europe]".

And the Spaniard further claimed there are "sporting reasons" behind Toure's exile. He said City were still 'growing, ' despite a study which showed the total spend on this squad is £775m, £3m more than the amount spent by the Paris St-Germain side now parading £200m Neymar. But Ederson went up for three long balls in training Tuesday morning and will be assessed on Wednesday.

"He just wants to be around the team and be in that environment. We are so proud and so happy he is with us".

Guardiola was also delighted with Stones, who headed in twice, as well as looking assured in defence in a comfortable evening for City.
