Southampton-Man Utd 0-1

25 Setiembre 2017

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, is adamant that he does not know why referee Craig Pawson sent him off, in the final minutes of their 1-0 win at Southampton on Saturday.

United's fans again aired a chant about Lukaku that draws on racial stereotypes about black men's penises and the club said they had requested CCTV footage from Southampton to identify the culprits.

However, after the song returned at Southampton, having previously been heard during games against Basel and Everton, United have chose to act. "That's his and my quote".

United took the lead through Romelu Lukaku's eighth goal in eight games after 20 minutes, but rarely dominated proceedings, with Southampton putting United well and truly under the cosh in the second half.

Kick It Out also issued a statement in the wake of Saturday's game, saying it was aware of "repeated racist chanting by Manchester United supporters".

A Kick It Out spokesman said: "Kick It Out would like to reiterate its stance that such behaviour has no place in football".

Lukaku scored his sixth goal in as many Premier League matches and Jones admits that Manchester United are lucky to have a clinical striker such as the Belgian up front.

"I honestly think it's a group of fans that have got carried away and did not expect the backlash they have got". That's the only one I understand. The association has called those who would have evidence of the chants racist to convey it to the police.

For his part, Mourinho claimed confusion over the reasons behind his sending off, although he did admit to colliding with the fourth official, per Luckhurst: "I don't know".

MUFC are seeking footage from the St. Mary's away end which would help identify the perpetrators. "But the only thing I will say is the fans were awesome, the support unbelievable from the first to the last minute", said the Portguese manager.

Their fans are definitely not happy with that, however, their second half display on Saturday anxious Man United fans.
