Carabao Cup: Conte Blames Wastefulness For 0-0 Draw Against Arsenal

Jack Wilshere limped off with an ankle sprain during Carabao Cup semi-final first leg draw at on Wednesday night, and is a doubt for this weekend's trip to.

"Baba is recovering from an injury and I haven't had the possibility to see him in training with us, only once or twice, but he wasn't ready to have a full training session with us", said Conte.

"We have to accept as well when you play so many games and Sanchez plays every game that sometimes a breather in the middle of the season helps a little bit".

It is understood that a deal worth £8.7 million a season has been struck between the two parties with the Italian master overlooking the Italian Football Federation's advances to take over the Azzuri in favour of a move back to London and the challenge of taking Arsenal back to the heights they savoured in the early years of the Wenger-era.

Shkodran Mustafi has struggled to justify his £35m price tag following a move to Arsenal from Valencia in the 2016 summer transfer window.

"I think you are well treated in the stadiums because you have good positions", said Wenger after the match.

The Bordeaux midfielder is wanted by a host of clubs including the North London duo and Manchester United.

Now, his performances have led to talks over a contract extension, while manager Arsene Wenger has suggested he should receive a recall to the England squad.

Wenger felt the familiarity of the teams, meeting for a second time in two weeks, contributed to the tepid draw.

We came under some scrutiny with our defensive display in the (Forest) game, so it was big for me to just get a clean sheet and have a solid game really.

"I was worried that it took too much time".

Sanchez then played the last 25 minutes, and Wenger insisted that his team selection "had nothing to do with the transfer market".

"In the current climate with Arsenal going through what they are, experienced players wanting to leave, no leadership, for that to happen".

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Sanchez's future, Wenger does not believe the Chile international's commitment can be questioned.
