"We have said from the beginning that Bannon would be a liability for any Senate candidate who embraced him, and now that he has openly turned on President Trump, it's hard to see how his toxicity helps anyone", wrote the Senate Leadership Fund in a statement. What's clear in the comments he made in the book was that he saw Trump as a vessel, not as a figure for whom he had much respect, at least in the comments as reflected by the author, Michael Wolff. The memo, titled "Pundit Prep", urged Trump's defenders to first focus on "jobs, jobs, jobs", and also offered tips on discrediting Wolff and his tome. Exactly one year after he began working for the Trump campaign, Bannon resigned from his chief strategist position. Trump was furious that he was tainted by Moore's loss.
His perceived influence on Trump led to him gracing the cover of Time in February 2017 with the headline, "The Great Manipulator".
Radio host Larry O'Connor, another Breitbart alum, celebrated the site's split from Bannon on Tuesday by posting an Instagram photo of what appeared to be sparkling wine. "But it's riddled and surrounded by the fact that this is a journalist who doesn't believe in calling anyone to correct sources".
The former White House strategist, who apparently did his own strategizing in a backroom with a map of blue states and a tin of plastic army soldiers, still had a faint glimmer of hope of remaining relevant as media observers dangled the not-so-tantalizing prospect of Bannon being swooped up by Fox News.
But his aggressive tactics and loose lips - in the book he called a meeting that Trump campaign hands Donald Trump Jr., Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner had with Russian emissaries "treasonous" and "unpatriotic" - ultimately proved his undoing.
"Danny Tarkanian and Steve Bannon are frauds whose only skill is losing elections and costing Republicans seats", Heller spokesman Keith Schipper responded in a statement.
Its sales reflect "rapidly surging anti-Trump sentiments in the international community", the article said.
Instead, it appears that Bannon spent his months out of power trying to regain his relevance among the billionaires.
And he criticized President Trump himself, saying he lacked intelligence, focus, the ability and the characteristics needed for a president.
That's an odd thing for a populist to take credit for, but Democratic political consultant Hank Sheinkopf offered a knowing explanation: "This is the way for him to tell the business community and wealthy donors that he's very relevant and someone they should be talking to on a regular basis".
Some conservatives who have worked closely with Bannon were harsh in response, all but writing his political obituary in the hours after the announcement. The company announced it is ending its relationship with Bannon, stating its programing agreement is with Breitbart.
"I'm proud of what the Breitbart team has accomplished in so short a period of time in building out a world-class news platform", Bannon said in a short post on the far-right news site.
Steve Bannon, the former top strategic adviser to President Donald Trump, is leaving his powerful perch at Breitbart News.
"The one description that everyone gave, everyone has in common - they all say he is like a child", Wolff said. "It's just that, on my side, that just counts for bragging rights", she added.
